Live Well September Newsletter
It’s been a quieter August at the Live Well Hub, but there’s still so much to share!
Welcome to the team, Katie!

We are delighted to announce that Katie Little is joining the Live Well with Cancer team as our Cancer Support Lead and providing additional support in the Live Well Hub. She’ll be joining Maureen, who is still awaiting surgery on her right shoulder, more or less a year after she had surgery on her left shoulder. We’re hoping to have the full team running by the end of September.
Certas Community Bloom Fund

Live Well community, we need you! We are delighted to be shortlisted by Certas Energy as one of four charities in with a chance of winning two £15,000 grants. If successful, we will use the money to renovate the Live Well Hub. We’re talking an accessible area in the back garden for 1-2-1 support sessions, and a proper kitchenette upstairs to replace a makeshift set up with no running water.

Howay the Bay 2026
A huge thank you to Holly and everyone who helped organise and run our 2nd annual Howay the Bay 15km(ish)! Eighty seven runners took on the route from Blyth beach to Northumberland Square in North Shields, and it was so lovely to see everyone enjoy some well-deserved treats after in the Live Well Hub. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!
Great North Run
Good luck to everyone who is running the Great North Run! Each year, we are blessed to have people choose to run the junior and adult’s events to fundraise for our charity. If you are signed up for next year’s Great North Run and you’re looking for a charity to support, we’d love to supply you with a Live Well with Cancer running top so that you can represent us with style.
Live Well with Healthy Habits campaign
Our Healthy Habits campaign helps people to improve their health and wellbeing by building the nine habits of a healthy lifestyle. We are fundraising to develop a wellness app that empowers users to set and track daily goals that create positive and lasting change for their overall wellbeing. Our wellness journals have helped hundreds of people to live well with healthy habits; support our campaign to help thousands more to live well with cancer.
24-hour podcast birthday fundraiser

Ben and Heywood will be streaming for 24 hours in the Live Well Hub, with lots of special guests from our community. Starting at 9am on 7th November, our birthday fundraiser will showcase the people of our charity and the services we offer to people impacted by a cancer diagnosis in our community. Email us at transformation@livewellwithcancer.co.uk if you are interested in taking part in the fundraiser.
Healthy Habits sessions
If you'd like to find out what living well with healthy habits feels like, we still have a few spaces available for our Masterclass on 19th September and our session at FACT in Gateshead on 24th September. Email us at transformation@livewellwithcancer.co.uk to register for an event.
Bailey’s Bike Riding Challenge
Bailey is at it again, riding five miles every day this August to raise money for Bailey’s Bears, helping us provide counselling and support for children impacted by cancer. We’re so proud of Bailey for being shortlisted for a BBC Radio Newcastle Make a Difference Award. Please join us in wishing him luck for the ceremony on Sunday 27th September.
Beyond the Diagnosis: So what happens now?
Our latest Beyond the Diagnosis blog sees Gillian share her experience of life after breast cancer treatment, the challenges she faced, and how finding support, friendship and community at Live Well with Cancer has helped her.
"It was the last day of my radiotherapy – I had been doing this every weekday for the last two weeks. I had been looking forward to this day for more than six months, ever since I had received my stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis."

Conversations that Matter
In partnership with Ben from Turnbull Funeral Directors and The Will Guys, we will be hosting Conversations That Matter, a friendly, supportive four-week workshop designed to help you think about the things that matter to you and those around you. You don't need to be at the end of life to take part – these conversations can be helpful at any stage of life, particularly if you have been affected by cancer or another life-changing experience.

What will we talk about?
Together, we'll explore how to plan ahead, have difficult conversations, understand practical arrangements such as Wills and funerals, and think about what you would like to leave behind for the people you love.
